The lappetites was first spawned from an event Kaffe Matthews curated at Tonic, New York, April 2001 where o-blaat, Ikue Mori, Zeena Parkins, Marina Rosenfeld and Kaffe herself played a 45 minute set. From that moment it was obvious that this format could be the beginning of a live electronics all female group and so the lappetites came into being. With other commitments, geographical boundaries, travel costs and busy schedules, it seemed obvious that the lappetites would be a forum within which to explore ways of playing, and that members would come and go over time. It is an ongoing laptop group exploring ways of connecting players and sounds through digital and sonic linking games within a multispeaker playground. The lappetites is a forum, a meeting place, a concept within which to make new musics via these kinds of possibilities. At present it’s members are Antye Greie, Ryoko Kuwajima, Eliane Radique and Kaffe Matthews, who first performed togther at the Capital Sonores festival, Paris, Jan 2004. They are currently working on an opera, due to be completed in 2007.
